A beauty pageant in the canals (khlong) of the floating market in Damnoen Saduak, Thailand
New Year’s in the air.
It’s Songkran time (Thai water splashing festival) again! So what better way to update the blog than with a post on Thailand! (That’s called taking the easy way out, haha – a few sentences, and a load of photos!).
By the way, it’s not only the Thais who celebrate their New Year in mid-April. It also happens to be the New Years of Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Punjab, Bengal, Assam, Manipur, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Odisha, etc… So Happy New Year everyone, to those who celebrate it anyway!

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, Thailand
Going shopping, in a boat
A traditional dance on a boat, accompanying the beauty pageant

What’s with the fruits on the boats? The more fruits, the better chances?
And Miss Bountiful Fruit goes to… (dunno, we didn’t stay to find out)

It’s not easy to take pictures of them, they’re moving so much, like Justin…
Somehow or other, I usually end up here, in Damnoen Saduak, on visits to Bangkok. It’s probably because floating markets are so associated with Bangkok in people’s mind, that any first time visit to Bangkok, must involve a visit to the floating market, never mind that it’s not actually in Bangkok. (It’s Anu’s first visit by the way). See more photos of Damnoen Saduak in my previous post of April 2009 – A Long Time Ago in Thailand.
